"Theatre is the meeting place for all cultures"
- Jerzy Grotowski
Opened with the play Echoes of Madness, inspired by the works of Brazilian writer Lima Barreto and Dr. Nise da Silveira.
The production was presented at the Black Box Theater and the Hispanic Cultural Arts Center in Miami.
In February 2025, the play was featured at the XXVIII Festival Latinoamericano de Monólogos, and in May 2025, at the 6th Women+ Festival.
The way of life can be free and beautiful, but we have lost the way. Greed has poisoned men’s souls, has barricaded the world with hate, has goose-stepped us into misery and bloodshed. We have developed speed, but we have shut ourselves in. Machinery that gives abundance has left us in want. Our knowledge has made us cynical. Our cleverness, hard and unkind. We think too much and feel too little. More than machinery we need humanity. More than cleverness we need kindness and gentleness. Without these qualities, life will be violent and all will be lost…
- Charles Chaplin, 1940
Theater has been my lifelong passion, to which I have devoted much of my life.
The Dionysus Brazilian Theater Festival - Miami was born from a need within my soul—a passion that demanded to be shared here in Miami, where destiny brought me six years ago.
Theater is the art of the act, the action that can only happen in the present moment.
I believe theater is both a dream and a mirror. Through its blend of reality and fantasy, it becomes the enchanted place we all experienced as children, where we played, imagined, and created. The audience comes to see a “play”. It is also a sacred space where we can see ourselves, deepen our understanding of one another, and ultimately envision a better world.
My dream is to unite cultures through theater—an art that depends on collaboration, collective effort, and a touch of magic. This project is a seed I’m planting in the hopes that this dream will come true.
I am profoundly grateful to all the supporters, partners and friends who made this project possible. Thank you for believing in the power of theater to transform, heal, and inspire.
The First Dionysus Brazilian Theater Festival in Miami was conceived by Rio-born actress, writer, and producer Ana Bugarim and was set to take place in November 2024.
Your contribution helps us to make the performing arts accessible to all and to enrich our community through creative expression.
